What looks like a perfect beach day in Miami can quickly turn dangerous today. Despite clear skies and warm temperatures, strong rip currents are creating life-threatening conditions along the coast.
The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a Beach Hazard Statement, warning that a high risk of rip currents will continue through Tuesday evening. This alert covers coastal areas across Miami-Dade County, Broward County, and Palm Beach County.
Beaches stretching from Miami Beach to Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach are seeing the highest risk. Officials warn that even experienced swimmers can be caught off guard, as rip currents can pull people away from shore in seconds.
Lifeguards are urging visitors to stay out of the water if possible. If you do go in, remain close to a lifeguard and never swim alone.
If caught in a current, don’t panic. Float, conserve energy, and swim parallel to the shoreline until you’re free—then return at an angle.
Away from the ocean, conditions remain pleasant. Today will be mostly sunny with highs near 78°F and gusty winds along the coast. Temperatures will stay around 79°F through midweek before rising into the low 80s by Thursday and Friday.
Even on calm-looking days, the ocean can be unpredictable. Staying alert could save your life.
