Late Monday morning, around 11:40 a.m. on April 27, officials at Lake City Middle School in Columbia County initiated a lockdown after multiple students reported that a classmate had allegedly mentioned losing a handgun on campus. The report was taken seriously, triggering an immediate response from school staff and law enforcement.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, a school resource deputy quickly secured the classroom and removed the 14-year-old student for questioning. During the initial response, investigators observed the student using a flashlight to search through their backpack, which raised further concern among authorities.
