Oakland Police SUV Rammed by Stolen Vehicle — 2 Ejected and Killed, Officer Hurt

Two men are dead and an Oakland police officer is recovering after a stolen Chevrolet Tahoe SUV loaded with three suspects crashed into a marked Oakland Police Department vehicle in East Oakland on Monday morning.

The violent crash unfolded near E. 12th Street and 29th Avenue — and what started as a routine traffic stop quickly turned fatal.

What Triggered the Chaos

Around 11 a.m., an Oakland Housing Authority Police Department (OHAPD) officer spotted a vehicle driving recklessly near E. 12th Street. When the officer tried to pull it over, the driver floored it and sped away.

Authorities confirmed the OHAPD officer did not pursue the fleeing Tahoe after the failed stop.

The Crash That Killed Two

Minutes later, the stolen Chevrolet Tahoe — carrying three men — veered out of control and slammed directly into a marked OPD patrol SUV.

Two of the three men inside were ejected from the vehicle on impact. Both died at the scene.

  • One victim landed in the center median beneath the elevated BART tracks
  • The other was found on the pavement in front of the overturned SUV

By Monday afternoon, the Tahoe was still at the scene — flipped on its side in the middle of the road.

Driver Tried to Run — Got Caught

The third man in the Tahoe, the driver, tried to flee on foot after the crash — but was quickly taken into custody by an OHAPD officer.

Officer Injured — Wasn’t Even Involved

The OPD officer inside the SUV that was hit suffered injuries in the collision — even though that officer had no involvement in the original traffic stop. They were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Oakland Police Department is leading the investigation. The OHAPD released a statement saying:

“Our thoughts are with the families, loved ones, and all those affected by this tragic incident.”
