A rental moving truck crashed into a vacant retail property in East Baltimore on Saturday morning, leaving the driver injured and prompting an emergency response.
The incident occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. at 2020 Harford Road, where first responders arrived to find a U-Haul vehicle lodged into the side of a former Family Dollar store. The building had previously operated as a discount retail outlet but was no longer open for business at the time of the crash.
Officials from the Baltimore City Fire Department reported that the driver was conscious and breathing when crews reached the scene. Emergency medical personnel evaluated the individual on-site before transporting them to a nearby hospital for further examination. Authorities have not released details about the driver’s condition.
Fortunately, no other injuries were reported. Since the store had been permanently closed prior to the incident, there were no customers or employees inside the building when the truck struck the structure.
Photographs from the scene showed visible structural damage to the exterior wall where the truck impacted. Debris was scattered around the crash site as emergency crews secured the area and assessed the stability of the building. Officials have not yet confirmed what may have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Traffic in the surrounding area was temporarily affected while responders worked to clear the scene and ensure public safety. Investigators are currently reviewing the circumstances leading up to the crash, including potential mechanical issues or other contributing factors.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
