A quiet South Philadelphia neighborhood was shaken late Monday afternoon after a violent incident inside a second-floor apartment left one woman dead and her roommate in police custody.
Authorities say the shooting occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. at a residence located along the 2600 block of South 9th Street near Shunk Street. Responding officers entered the apartment and discovered a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds as well as a gunshot wound to the head.
Despite emergency efforts, the victim was pronounced dead just before 4:45 p.m.
Investigators recovered both a firearm and a knife from the scene, indicating a violent confrontation took place inside the residence. A 30-year-old woman has been taken into custody in connection with the homicide. Police believe the two women were roommates, though officials have not yet confirmed what sparked the deadly encounter.
