Sheridan County Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Drug Distribution and Child Endangerment Charges

A Sheridan County woman has entered not guilty pleas to multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a multi-month investigation into alleged methamphetamine distribution in the area.

Shannon Nesheim was arrested in January after an investigation conducted by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation into a suspected methamphetamine distribution operation in Sheridan County. Authorities allege Nesheim sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant during a controlled purchase organized by agents.

During a District Court arraignment hearing on Thursday, Nesheim pleaded not guilty to one count of delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), one count of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance (methamphetamine), three counts of child endangerment for allegedly possessing methamphetamine while children were present in her home, and one count of misdemeanor marijuana possession. The alleged offenses are said to have occurred between November 1, 2025, and January 23, 2026.

District Court Judge Darci Phillips set a three-day jury trial to begin on August 10. A pretrial conference is scheduled for July 9 at 9:30 a.m. Nesheim’s bond was modified from $25,000 cash-only to $25,000 cash or surety. If convicted on all counts, she could face a combined maximum sentence of 56 years in prison and fines totaling $66,000.

Separate Theft Case Moves Toward Sentencing

In a separate matter heard Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan, 53-year-old Colt Owen changed his plea in a felony theft case.

Owen is accused of stealing from his employer, Buckhorn Travel Plaza in Ranchester, between July and October 2023. Under a plea agreement with the state, Owen entered a no contest plea to the charge. The agreement recommends a sentence of three to five years in prison, suspended in favor of three years of supervised probation.

As part of the proposed resolution, Owen must pay $8,600 in restitution to the victim before completing the probation period.

District Court Judge Ben Kirven ordered a presentence investigation report to be prepared by the Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole. Sentencing is expected to be scheduled in approximately 75 days. Owen’s bond remains in place under the same conditions previously set in Sheridan County Circuit Court.
