Haleiwa, Hawaii — A robbery case that shook a North Shore business community earlier this month has now moved forward, with Honolulu authorities formally charging a suspect and setting a high bail as the investigation continues.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, officers first responded to a reported robbery around 4:10 p.m. on April 20 at a business located along Kamehameha Highway in Haleiwa. The incident prompted an immediate police presence in the area as investigators began gathering details about what happened.
In the days following the incident, authorities worked to identify the individual involved. Investigators later named the suspect as DJ Ahwong. On April 27, officers from the District 2 Crime Reduction Unit located and arrested him, bringing a key development in the case.
Just one day later, on April 28, prosecutors officially charged Ahwong with robbery in the first degree — a serious felony offense that typically involves the use of force or threat during the commission of a theft. Following the charge, bail was set at $250,000, reflecting the severity of the allegations.
While police have not released additional details about the circumstances of the robbery, cases like this often raise concerns among local business owners and residents, especially in smaller communities like Haleiwa where such incidents are less common.
Authorities have not indicated whether additional suspects may be involved or if further charges could follow. The case now moves into the judicial process, where more details are expected to emerge in court proceedings.
Officials continue to encourage anyone with additional information related to the incident to come forward as the investigation remains active.
