A late-afternoon crash in Fort Worth turned deadly Monday after an alleged hit-and-run led to a short police pursuit that ended with a vehicle slamming into a tree.

Hit-and-Run Reported on West Freeway

Just after 4:30 p.m., officers were alerted to a possible hit-and-run near West Freeway and Horne Street. A caller reported that his vehicle had been struck and that the other driver failed to stop. The victim began following the suspect’s vehicle while contacting authorities.

Brief Pursuit on Camp Bowie Boulevard

Officers located the suspect vehicle near Camp Bowie Boulevard and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Instead of pulling over, the driver fled eastbound, prompting a brief pursuit.

Authorities say the chase was short-lived.

Crash Into Tree Proves Fatal

Investigators believe the suspect struck a curb in the 3700 block of Camp Bowie Boulevard, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a tree.

The driver — who was the only person inside the vehicle — was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers or members of the public were injured during the incident.

Investigation Ongoing

Officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the initial collision and the pursuit. The identity of the driver has not yet been released pending notification of family.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly a traffic situation can escalate — and how dangerous fleeing the scene of an accident can become.
