Two Des Moines Men Identified in Marshalltown Jewelry Store Burglary, Arrest Warrants Filed

Marshalltown police have identified two Des Moines men in connection with a jewelry store burglary that took place in early April.

Arrest warrants have been filed for Douglas Baker, 53, and Dewayne Rowley, 59, in connection with the break-in at Hellberg’s Jewelers.

What Happened

The burglary occurred around 4 a.m. on April 4. Officers arrived to find multiple glass display cases shattered. Store owners confirmed that several high-value jewelry pieces had been stolen.

How They Were Caught

Surveillance footage showed two masked men smashing the store’s entrance. Investigators tracked down the getaway truck and linked it to an earlier visit — footage even showed Baker presenting his ID to a cashier at the store on March 26, just days before the break-in.

Arrests and Vehicles

Des Moines Police seized the suspects’ truck on April 5. Four days later, a connected SUV was located. Baker was behind the wheel and arrested for driving while barred, though he has since been released. Search warrants have been filed for both vehicles.

Criminal History

Investigators note that Baker has an extensive criminal record involving burglaries and thefts dating back to 1987.

Can You Help?

Authorities have released photos of both men and are asking the public for help locating them.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Marshall County Police Department or submit a tip to Marshall County Crime Stoppers.
