Woman Accused of Assaulting Norfolk Police Officer During ABC Store Robbery Response

NORFOLK, Va. — A woman is facing serious felony charges after police say she assaulted a Norfolk police officer who was responding to a reported robbery at an ABC store in the Ocean View area Sunday evening.

According to the Norfolk Police Department, officers were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. to a reported larceny at the ABC store located at 159 W. Ocean View Avenue. While handling the call, an officer encountered Tai Sharrock, 43, of Norfolk.

Police allege that during the response, Sharrock assaulted the officer, leading to additional charges beyond the initial investigation at the store. Authorities did not release details about what led up to the confrontation, but confirmed the incident escalated quickly while the officer was performing official duties.

The officer involved was not seriously injured, according to police officials, and did not require extensive medical treatment. The incident, however, was serious enough for detectives to file felony charges.

Sharrock has been charged with aggravated assault of a police officer and obstruction of justice. Due to the nature of the alleged offense, she is currently being held without bail, police said.

Officials have not indicated whether Sharrock is also connected to the reported larceny at the ABC store or if additional charges related to the robbery investigation could follow.

The case remains under investigation, and authorities say more information may be released as court proceedings move forward. Anyone with additional information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Norfolk Police Department.
