Massachusetts Sees Early Taste of Summer as 70°F Hits, Bigger Warmup Ahead Next Week

Residents across parts of Massachusetts and New Hampshire got a pleasant surprise as temperatures climbed to around 70°F in several towns near the border, offering a preview of what’s shaping up to be a warmer stretch ahead.

The brief warm spell came thanks to clear sunshine and a steady southwest wind, which helped push temperatures higher in inland areas. Meanwhile, coastal communities like Cape Cod, Gloucester, and Marblehead stayed noticeably cooler, highlighting how wind direction continues to influence local conditions.

A weak cold front is expected to move through overnight, bringing light showers. However, rainfall will likely be minimal and not enough to significantly impact dry conditions.

By Saturday, sunshine returns quickly, but temperatures will drop back into the upper 50s as cooler air settles in. Sunday will remain bright but cooler still, with sea breezes keeping highs in the mid-50s.

The bigger story unfolds next week. Forecasters expect a strong warming trend, with temperatures climbing well into the 70s across much of the region for several consecutive days. While Monday’s warmth is still slightly uncertain, favorable conditions suggest most areas will cross the 70°F mark.

Midweek could bring slight coastal cooling again due to sea breezes, but inland locations are likely to stay comfortably warm. If current patterns hold, even Thursday and Friday may extend the warm streak before another cold front potentially arrives next weekend.

For now, it’s a mix of sunshine, cool breezes, and a clear signal that spring is gaining momentum.
