Rideshare Driver Carjacked at Gunpoint in Logan Square; Police Probe Possible Link to Nearby Attempted Robbery

A late-night shift turned into a frightening ordeal for a rideshare driver in Chicago after an armed group robbed him and stole his vehicle in the Logan Square neighborhood. Authorities say the incident is part of an active investigation, with a possible connection to another attempted robbery reported shortly after.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the carjacking occurred between 2:45 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. in the 2100 block of West Walnut Street, a residential area in Logan Square. The victim, a 54-year-old rideshare driver, had stopped when three men approached him on foot.

Police said the suspects entered the victim’s white Nissan SUV, with at least one of them armed. Inside the vehicle, the suspects robbed the driver of his personal belongings before ordering him out of the car. The driver complied, prioritizing his safety as the group fled the scene in his vehicle.

Despite the severity of the situation, officials confirmed that the victim was not physically injured. However, incidents like these often leave victims shaken, especially when they occur unexpectedly during routine work hours.

Just under an hour later, around 3:40 a.m., another incident was reported in the 2000 block of North Western Avenue on the Near West Side. In that case, two men attempted to rob a business but were unsuccessful. Police said the suspects fled the scene in a white SUV, raising concerns about a possible connection to the earlier carjacking.

Authorities have not officially confirmed whether both incidents are linked, but similarities in the suspect descriptions and vehicle type are part of the ongoing investigation. Area detectives are actively reviewing evidence and surveillance footage to determine if the same group was involved.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not yet released detailed descriptions of the suspects. Residents and workers in the area are being urged to remain alert, especially during overnight hours when such crimes are more likely to occur.

Officials continue to gather information and are expected to provide updates as new details emerge.
