A truck driver accused of killing two people near Lodi, California — then trying to flee on foot — has been arrested. Federal officials say he entered the U.S. illegally and was later released by the prior administration.
Manvir Singh, an undocumented immigrant from India, allegedly caused a deadly multi-vehicle crash around 12:20 p.m. before attempting to escape on foot. He was caught by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Singh entered the U.S. through Arizona in 2023 and was released by the Biden administration. He held a commercial driver’s license (CDL) that allowed him to operate an 18-wheeler.
What Charges Does He Face?
- Vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence
- Hit-and-run resulting in death or injury
- Resisting or obstructing a police officer
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has also filed a detainer request to hold Singh for transfer to federal custody.
Part of a Bigger Pattern?
DHS says this is the fourth case since last year involving an undocumented truck driver with the last name “Singh” accused in a fatal crash — raising questions about how commercial driver’s licenses are issued to undocumented individuals.
Officials are now pushing for Dalilah’s Law — a proposed federal measure that would bar states from issuing CDLs to undocumented immigrants. The law is named after Dalilah Coleman, a young girl left with life-changing injuries after a similar crash in California in 2024.
