DICKINSON, N.D. — A young girl is dead after a scooter crash in Dickinson Friday afternoon, and investigators are still working to piece together exactly what went wrong.

The North Dakota State Patrol says the crash happened around 5:15 p.m. on May 23 on 30th Avenue West, in the stretch between 18th Street West and 19th Street West — a residential corridor many in the community travel daily.

According to authorities, the girl was riding a 2021 Honda WW150 scooter southbound when the vehicle suddenly veered to the right, overturned, and slammed into a light post.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim, a juvenile female resident of Dickinson, has not been publicly identified. Her age has not been released.

No other vehicles appear to have been involved, though investigators have not yet confirmed what caused the scooter to veer off course.

The North Dakota State Patrol says the crash remains under active investigation.
