A quiet morning in Aurora turned into a nightmare when a 57-year-old woman was brutally attacked by multiple dogs outside her home, leaving her in critical condition and facing life-altering injuries.
What Happened
According to the Aurora Police Department, officers responded around 11:40 a.m. on March 30 to a distress call reporting a violent animal attack on North Lima Street.
When emergency teams arrived, they found Hilda Lorena Cifuentes suffering from severe and multiple bite wounds. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she has since undergone multiple surgeries.
Severe Injuries and Ongoing Battle
Doctors have confirmed that the injuries are extensive and devastating:
- Deep wounds to face, arms, legs, and abdomen
- Head trauma
- Possible loss of vision
- Risk of amputation of her left leg

Cifuentes’ daughter, Sandy Aparicio, described the horrifying sequence of events.
Her mother was simply doing routine yard work—moving items between her front yard and a shared parking space—when three dogs belonging to a neighbor suddenly got loose.
The neighbor had reportedly moved into the duplex just 10 days earlier.
“We don’t know if the door was left open or if it was an accident,” Aparicio said. “But the dogs came out and started attacking my mom.”
Alone and defenseless, Cifuentes screamed for help—but no one nearby could immediately assist her.
A Brave Attempt to Help
A nearby woman, Brenda Chacon, heard the screams and rushed to intervene.
“I tried to do whatever I could,” she said. “But the dogs started coming at me too.”
