Maine is seeing a rare warm stretch this week — but residents should make the most of it before a significant weather shift arrives later in the week.
Temperatures across southern and central Maine are climbing near 70 degrees today, with Bangor and the Interstate 95 corridor seeing some of the warmest conditions. Even northern areas like Presque Isle and Caribou are expected to reach the low-to-mid 60s under mostly dry skies through Tuesday.
But that quiet stretch won’t last long.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, clouds will begin building Wednesday as a more organized storm system approaches. By Thursday into Friday, widespread rainfall of at least 1 inch is expected across the state — with the heaviest bands likely hitting central and northern Maine. Roads along I-95 and U.S. Route 1 could see ponding and slower travel conditions during periods of heavy rain.
Temperatures will also drop noticeably by the end of the week, with highs falling back into the 50s and even upper 40s in some areas by Friday — a sharp contrast to this week’s early warmth.
Forecasters are urging residents to use the next day or two wisely — check drainage areas around your home, plan for longer commutes Thursday and Friday, and keep an eye on updated forecasts as the system approaches.
Rain chances may continue into the weekend with lighter showers possible.
