Instead of Helping a Dying Teen, This Florida Man Called an Uber and Went Home

A Florida man walked away from a deadly crash scene — with his young son — and took an Uber home instead of helping the teenager he had just hit.

What Happened?

On April 11, just before 11 p.m., a three-vehicle crash occurred on State Road 574 in Seffner, Florida. A Nissan sedan crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Volkswagen driven by a 17-year-old boy head-on.

As the vehicles came to a stop, Christopher Everson, 32, driving a Ford F-150, allegedly struck the Volkswagen a second time.

What Did Everson Do Next?

Rather than stopping to help, Everson allegedly walked away from the crash site with his 8-year-old son and ordered an Uber ride back to his home in St. Petersburg — about 37 miles away.

What Happened to the Teen?

The 17-year-old was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. He later died.

Arrest and Charges

Everson was arrested on Thursday and booked into Orient Road Jail under no bond. He faces two charges:

  • Leaving the scene of a crash involving death
  • Operating an unregistered vehicle

What About the Other Driver?

The driver of the Nissan, identified as Garry Baptiste, was hospitalized and cited for careless driving for crossing into oncoming traffic.

Current Status

Everson’s case has been assigned to a judge. No court date has been set yet.
