A shocking and deeply disturbing incident has emerged from Hudson, Massachusetts, where a 29-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly attacking multiple family members with a skateboard—resulting in the death of his 90-year-old grandmother.
What Happened?
According to Marian Ryan, authorities received a frantic 911 call just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday from a woman reporting that her brother was attacking her with a skateboard inside their home on Munson Street.
Within moments, another call followed—this time reporting that the same man had begun attacking their elderly grandmother.
The suspect, identified as Devin Dube, allegedly assaulted three members of his family:
- His 90-year-old grandmother
- His sister
- His father
All victims were rushed to nearby hospitals. Tragically, the grandmother, Elaine Dube, later died from her injuries at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
The sister and father sustained injuries to their faces and upper bodies but have since been released.
Suspect Arrested After Brief Manhunt
After the attack, Dube fled the scene, prompting a search by local authorities. Approximately 45 minutes later, he was spotted running around a property on Tower Street.
Police eventually found him hiding inside a van, where he was arrested without further incident.
Charges Filed
Dube now faces multiple serious charges, including:
- Murder
- Two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60
- One count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
He was arraigned in Marlborough District Court the following day.
Mental Health Concerns Raised
During court proceedings, forensic psychologist Hilary Novak conducted an evaluation of Dube.
Key findings included:
- A documented history of schizophrenia
- Reports of experiencing auditory hallucinations during evaluation
- Uncertainty regarding his competency to stand trial
As a result, Dube has been ordered to undergo a 20-day psychiatric evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital. He is scheduled to return to court on April 17.
Community Reaction
Hudson Police Chief Richard DiPersio described the incident as a “senseless tragedy,” emphasizing that the attack was not random but occurred within the family.
Neighbors remembered Elaine Dube as a kind and warm individual, often described simply as a “sweetheart.”
Authorities also noted that while police had previous interactions with the suspect, there had been no prior domestic violence reports involving the family.
Investigation Ongoing
At this stage, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances leading up to the violent incident.
This case has raised broader concerns about mental health, family safety, and the unpredictable nature of such tragedies—leaving a community shaken and searching for answers.
