Metcalfe County Traffic Stop Leads to DUI and Drug Charges for 62-Year-Old Driver

KNOB LICK, Ky. – A routine traffic stop in Metcalfe County on Saturday evening resulted in the arrest of a local man on multiple drug-related and driving charges.

According to authorities, a deputy with the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Office observed a pickup truck traveling southbound on KY 1243 in Knob Lick and noted careless driving behavior. The deputy initiated a traffic stop to investigate further.

The driver was identified as 62-year-old Ronald D. Poynter. During the stop, the deputy reportedly observed signs that suggested possible impairment.

After conducting field sobriety tests, the deputy placed Poynter under arrest for driving under the influence.

Officials say that a subsequent investigation led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, prescription-controlled substances, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in his possession.

Poynter was transported to a nearby hospital for a toxicology examination. Following the evaluation, he was booked into the Barren County Detention Center.

He is facing several charges, including:

  • Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), first offense
  • Possession of a controlled substance (unspecified), first offense
  • Trafficking in marijuana, first offense
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Driving under the influence, first offense
  • Careless driving

The case remains under investigation, and all charges are allegations pending court proceedings.
