After more than 40 years, Hemingway’s Cafe in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood has closed its doors — but fans of the bar now have a chance to take home a piece of its history.
What’s Happening?
The bar has launched an auction starting Monday, giving longtime patrons a chance to bid on memorabilia from inside the iconic Oakland staple.
What’s Up for Auction?
- Neon signs and bigger bar signs
- Beer taps
- Pitchers, chairs and tables
- Photos hanging on the walls
Bidders will need to put down a deposit on any items they win.
When Can You Go?
- Auction: Runs online until Wednesday at 6 p.m.
- In-Person Sales: Tuesday and Wednesday, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Don’t Want to Bid? No Problem
For those who want to skip the bidding war, smaller items like signs are available to buy directly for as little as $10 to $20, according to general manager Mackenzie Brunton.
One Last Drink?
The bar will also be selling leftover beer. Patrons can even bring a growler to take beer home — one final toast to Hemingway’s.
Why It Matters
Hemingway’s served the Oakland community for over four decades. For many Pittsburgh residents, this auction is the last chance to hold onto a memory from a place that meant so much to the neighborhood.
