Strong Wind Advisory Continues in Pittsburgh Region as Power Restoration Efforts Face Delays

A wind advisory remains in effect Monday morning across the Pittsburgh region and much of western Pennsylvania, as thousands of residents are still dealing with power outages caused by powerful winds late last week.

The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, covers all of western Pennsylvania along with parts of eastern Ohio and the northern panhandle of West Virginia. It is scheduled to remain in effect until 11 a.m. Monday.

Forecasters say sustained winds between 15 and 20 miles per hour are expected, with gusts potentially reaching up to 50 miles per hour. These conditions could cause unsecured outdoor objects to be blown around, tree limbs to snap, and additional power outages in already affected neighborhoods.

According to meteorologists, a strong cold front will move through the area Monday morning. The most intense winds are likely to accompany a band of showers developing ahead of the front, creating brief but powerful gusts across the region.

Many communities in and around Pittsburgh are still without electricity following Friday night’s damaging wind event. Downed trees and damaged power lines have slowed restoration efforts, leaving some households without service for several days.

Utility provider Duquesne Light said that full restoration may take another day or more as crews continue working to repair infrastructure. Ongoing windy conditions through Sunday and Monday could further delay recovery operations.

Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Higher Elevations

In addition to the wind advisory, parts of Fayette and Westmoreland counties are under a winter weather advisory beginning at 5 p.m. Monday and lasting through 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Higher elevation areas in these counties are expected to see accumulating snowfall, which may lead to slippery road conditions. Officials warn that travel during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes could be impacted.

The combination of snow and gusty winds may also result in additional tree damage and isolated outages in affected areas.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, use caution while driving, and stay alert for updates as changing weather conditions continue to affect the region.
