Teen Killed After Being Ejected in East Alabama Rollover Crash; Driver Injured

A tragic rollover crash in east Alabama claimed the life of a 17-year-old and left another teen injured Wednesday afternoon, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety and seat belt use among young drivers.

According to state authorities, the accident occurred around 2:29 p.m. on Cleburne County Road 70 near its intersection with County Road 230, roughly eight miles east of Piedmont. Officials said a 16-year-old was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Trax when the vehicle veered off the roadway.

The SUV then overturned and struck multiple trees, causing severe damage. During the crash, the 17-year-old passenger—who was not wearing a seat belt—was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders pronounced the teen dead at the scene.

The driver sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The extent of those injuries has not yet been disclosed.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, as they are both minors.

Incidents like this serve as a stark reminder of how quickly situations can turn fatal on the road, especially when basic safety precautions are not followed. Seat belts remain one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injury or death in crashes.

Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident, including factors that may have contributed to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
