A devastating two-vehicle crash in Plano on Monday afternoon has left a community mourning after a 15-year-old boy lost his life and three others were injured.
Crash Happened Around Midday on Independence Parkway
Emergency crews responded shortly after noon to the 600 block of Independence Parkway following reports of a serious collision. Plano police and fire-rescue teams arrived to find two heavily damaged vehicles involved in the crash.
According to the preliminary investigation, a blue Chevrolet Cobalt traveling southbound on Independence Parkway lost control. The vehicle reportedly crossed the center median and collided head-on with a white Lincoln Navigator traveling northbound.
Teen Passenger Pronounced Dead at Scene
Authorities identified the victim as Carter Hiese, a 15-year-old from Murphy. He was riding in the Lincoln Navigator at the time of the crash. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other occupants of the Navigator, including the driver, were transported to a nearby hospital. Officials have not released details about the severity of their injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet was not transported to the hospital.
Speed May Have Played a Role
Police indicated that speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine exactly what led to the loss of control.
