Marquette, Michigan – A wet and potentially hazardous night is ahead for communities across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula as a Flood Watch remains in place through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service office in Marquette, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop late tonight and continue into early Tuesday, bringing periods of heavy rainfall.
While total rainfall may average around half an inch, some areas could see higher amounts. Combined with ongoing snowmelt, this increases the risk of rising rivers, overflowing creeks, and water collecting in low-lying areas.
A few storms may also bring gusty winds and small hail, adding to already unsettled conditions. Overnight travel could become difficult due to reduced visibility, slick roads, and sudden downpours. Early Tuesday commuters may also face delays in areas where water begins to pool.
Today’s conditions will stay mostly cloudy after early morning fog, with temperatures ranging between 40 and 63 degrees.
Residents, especially those in flood-prone locations, are urged to stay alert. Keeping an eye on local water levels and being prepared for quick changes can help avoid dangerous situations.
With rain continuing into Tuesday, even moderate rainfall could quickly lead to localized flooding, making caution essential over the next 24 hours.
