Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Northern Blue Mountains of Oregon, Heavy Snow and Strong Winds Expected

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Northern Blue Mountains of Oregon, with hazardous conditions expected from Tuesday evening through late Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday and remains in effect until 11 p.m. Wednesday. Forecasters are predicting moderate to heavy snowfall, with total accumulations ranging from 5 to 11 inches. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph, further worsening conditions.

Officials warn that periods of intense snowfall combined with strong winds may significantly reduce visibility, creating dangerous travel conditions. Roads could quickly become slick and snow-covered, making driving difficult, especially during peak snowfall hours.

Authorities are urging residents and travelers to slow down, use caution, and avoid unnecessary travel if possible. Those who must drive are advised to stay alert and prepared for sudden weather changes.

Winter weather continues to be a serious safety concern each year, contributing to thousands of accidents nationwide. Drivers should ensure their vehicles are winter-ready, including having enough fuel and emergency supplies such as blankets, food, water, and a flashlight.

If stranded, it’s safest to remain inside the vehicle and signal for help rather than attempting to walk in severe weather. Keeping others informed about travel plans can also be critical during such conditions.

Officials recommend checking road and weather updates regularly before heading out to stay informed and safe during this winter event.
