A quiet Friday night in west Phoenix turned tragic after gunfire erupted near 25th Avenue and Hazelwood Street, leaving a 44-year-old man dead and a suspect behind bars weeks later.
According to the Phoenix Police, officers responded to reports of shots fired at approximately 11 p.m. on Jan. 16. When they arrived, they located 44-year-old Steven Stone Jr. suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Emergency responders rushed Stone to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite life-saving efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.
For more than a month, investigators worked to piece together what led to the fatal shooting. On Feb. 26, authorities confirmed the arrest of 33-year-old Anthony Bracy in connection with the case.
Police have not yet disclosed what may have sparked the confrontation, and details surrounding the circumstances remain under investigation.
The arrest marks a significant development in the case, but investigators continue working to determine the events that unfolded in the moments before the gunfire rang out.
Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact local authorities as the investigation remains ongoing.
